FPGA - Field Programmable Gate Arrays - are highly integrated chips that allow it, to create customized digital circuits. Unlike CPUs or ASICs, which are specified for a wide range of applications, FPGAs are like a basket of LEGO building blocks, which can be customized and reconfigured for a special application. FPGAs are based around a matrix of configurable logic blocks (CLBs), which are connected via programmable interconnects. This way a FPGA can be something as simple as a gate, or as highly complex as a multi-core processor.
When a microcontroller - for example - provides a handfull of pins for a serial port, the FPGA designer can create as many pins, as he needs for his special circuit design. With the help of Flash-ROMs or micro controllers, FPGAs will be (re)programmed and get their high-level consciousness with any new start. This makes it possible to change or extend the functionality of the whole product with a simple update of the FPGA code at any time without exchanging the unit. Thanks to a low power consumption and parallel task processing, FPGAs deliver a high performance at their defined task.
Companies that design digital circuits, like Intel or nVidia, often use FPGAs to prototype their chips before creating them.

HARDWARE REALTIME NETWORK CORE
The Hardware RTP core provides the multi-channel conversion of media data to the IP/UDP and RTP protocols directly into the FPGA with almost zero processing load. The core connects to a network interface and implements a clock recovery function, based on a digital PLL, for every channel. It provides a flexible low latency packet interval from 0.1 - 64 ms and a payload size of up to 1024 Bytes.
The HRTP core can be used for high-quality audio and video transmission.

MULTI-PORT MADI CONTROLLER
The RESONETZ FPGA-core provides up to 8 MADI ports, even in low-cost FPGAs.
The internal clock recover function includes a low-jitter over sampling clock clock to ADC/DAC connection.
MULTI-CHANNEL AES/EBU CONTROLLER
The RESONETZ FPGA-core provides up to 16 multi-channel AES/EBU inputs and outputs in one single FPGA. User/status bit handling is fully supported. The digital PLL technology requires no external components.
Multi-Channel IIR Filter
The RESONETZ Multi-Channel IIR Filter Core is a highly complex and powerful FPGA-based digital filter array, which provides a filter for every channel. Each of up to 64 channels can use individual coefficients. Thanks to the effective utilization of the internal FPGA structure, only a small number of gates are necessary for multi-channel arithmetic, resulting in very low FPGA ressource consumtion.
The internal calculations are performed with 36 Bits in fixed point format. Inputs and Outputs are also using 36 Bits. High precision filter operation and noise shaping are supported.
